German Classification of Occupations 1992 (KldB 92)

The German Classification of Occupations 1992 summarises occupations according to the tasks they perform. It is divided into five levels, the first comprising 6 occupational areas, the second 33 occupational sections , the third 88 occupational groups, the fourth 369 occupational orders and the fifth finally 2,287 occupational classes (cf. Federal Statistical Office 1992: 1).

Origin/Creator: Federal Statistical Office of Germany
Method/Structure: The top level differentiates occupations between primary production, manufacturing and services (6). The next level distinguishes between occupational sections, grouping together occupations that are similar in nature, e.g. by type of material (33). The third level comprises occupational groups, i.e. occupations that are close to each other in terms of subject matter and have related occupational tasks and activities (88). The next level includes occupations that are similar in the nature of their occupational tasks (269). At the lowest level are the individual occupations or types of occupations (2,287) (cf. Federal Statistical Office 1992: 1).
Development/implementation for Germany: The KldB 92 replaces the Classification of Occupations of the Federal Statistical Office from 1975. The following version of the KldB 92 is the KldB 2010 of the Federal Employment Agency (BA), the Federal Statistical Office (StaBu) and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB).
