Occupational Prestige Scale for the German Classification of Occupations 2010 (BAS)

Occupational Prestige Scale for the German Classification of Occupations 2010 (BAS)

The BAS provides prestige values for Occupational Groups (3-digit codes) of the German Classification of Occupations 2010 (BAS-3) and for Occupational Main-Groups (2-digit codes) combined with the requirement level (5th digit) of the German Classification of Occupations 2010 (BAS-2|5). The scales are based on occupational prestige measurements for 402 occupations (cf. Ebner/Rohrbach-Schmidt 2021).

Origin/Creator: Christian Ebner, Daniela Rohrbach-Schmidt
Method/Structure: The occupational prestige scale (BAS) was created in a joint project "Occupations in Germany" carried out by BIBB and the Technical University of Braunschweig. On the basis of 9,011 realised interviews and 45,050 occupational prestige ratings, prestige values were collected for a total of 402 occupations. Based on these prestige ratings occupational prestige scores were constructed for Occupational Groups (3-digit codes) of the German Classification of Occupations 2010 (BAS-3) and for Occupational Main-Groups (2-digit codes) combined with the requirement level (5th digit) of the German Classification of Occupations 2010 (BAS-2|5).
