ISIC

The International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC) is the United Nations' systematisation of economic activities. It has been continuously updated since its publication in 1948. The most recent version is the ISIC Rev. 4.
The ISIC is the basis for both the European classification of economic activities, the NACE, and the German WZ.
The aim of the classification is "to provide a set of activity categories that can be utilized for the collection and reporting of statistics according to such activities" (United Nations 2008: iii). The ISIC is hierarchically structured.
