ROB 2010 spatial types

ROB 2010 spatial types

The spatial types from 2010 summarise districts and independent cities based on their location (determined by the potentially accessible daily population) (BBSR 2012).

Origin/Creator: Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR)
Method/Structure: The following categories can be distinguished for the spatial types:
1. very peripheral, 2. peripheral, 3. central and 4. very central (BBSR 2012).
The allocation to these categories is based on a centrality index, which reflects the proximity to concentrations of population and jobs. The index is based on the accessible daily population. In addition to the resident population, this also includes the number of inhabitants and the (occupational) commuter balance (BBSR 2012). Individual district indicators are assigned to the spatial types using the average accessible daily population of the municipalities within a district (BBSR 2012).
Development/implementation for Germany: The 2010 spatial types are the further development of the ROB 2005 spatial structure types (BBSR 2012).
